We learned how to tie in, how a grigri worked and by the end of the day we were pseudo lead climbing--climbing with a top rope and practicing hanging draws and clipping using a second rope... A great introduction to sport climbing for those with little to no outdoor experience."

They took time to be sure that we were comfortable with with what we were doing and that were always safe. They made sure we understood what we needed to do and then they encouraged us to go beyond what we thought we could do."

Frequently Asked Questions
|
Do I need prior rock climbing experience?
No prior experience is necessary. The Rock Adventure Day is fully customizable to your specific skill level. Whether you are an absolute beginner putting on a harness for the first time, an indoor gym climber transitioning to real rock, or an experienced climber looking to experience sandstone, your guide will select routes tailored entirely to your comfort and goals.
Where do the climbing tours take place?
We meet at our main outfitter locations in Springdale or Virgin, and then travel to the climbing sites. Because technical rock climbing is highly restricted inside the national park to protect natural resources, we guide on permitted Bureau of Land Management (BLM) cliffs located just outside the park boundaries. These sites offer the same iconic Zion views and high-quality rock, but with far less crowd volume.
Is this activity suitable for families and children?
Yes, rock climbing is an excellent activity for families. We safely accommodate children as young as 5 years old. Our guides specialize in creating a supportive, low-pressure environment and utilize redundant, ultra-safe top-rope anchor systems. We also provide specialized technical safety gear specifically sized for smaller children.
Do you provide the technical equipment, or do I need to bring my own?
Zion Adventure Company provides all necessary technical gear for your excursion. This includes professionally inspected climbing shoes, harnesses, helmets, ropes, and belay devices. You only need to bring your personal items, appropriate outdoor clothing, water, snacks, and a camera.
How long is the drive time to the climbing locations?
Drive times range between 35 and 75 minutes from our shop. The exact duration depends on the season, weather, and which climbing crag your guide selects to best match your group’s physical goals and skill level.
What is your policy regarding inclement weather?
Southern Utah sandstone becomes fragile when wet, making climbing unsafe and potentially damaging to the rock. If our guiding staff determines that weather or rock conditions are unsafe, we will make every effort to reschedule your tour or transition your group to a comparable, safe adventure. If a alternative solution cannot be reached, you will receive a 100% full refund.
