​A Slot Canyon Tour is a Canyoneering trip that is a fully guided journey through canyons shaped by water, time, and stone. Your day may include hiking, scrambling, down-climbing, and rappelling—sometimes passing through shallow canyon pools depending on conditions and route choice. Each element is introduced with care, and your guide sets a pace that supports both confidence and curiosity.

Available as half-day or full-day expeditions, these guided tours are well suited for individuals, couples, families with teens, and small groups traveling through Zion, Bryce Canyon, or the Mighty 5. Our professional guides adapt each trip to a wide range of abilities and comfort levels. Since 1996, Zion Adventures has helped set the standards for canyoneering in Southern Utah. What Is A Slot Canyon Tour?

A Slot Canyon Tour is a guided canyoneering experience designed to be flexible, supportive, and tailored to your group.

Rather than following a fixed route, your guide selects the canyon and approach based on current conditions, group ability, and your goals for the day. This allows each trip to feel intentional—whether you’re easing into your first canyon or ready for a longer, more immersive experience.

These canyoneering tours focus on:

  • Exploring sculpted slot canyons unique to the desert Southwest
  • Learning movement and technique in a supportive environment
  • Moving at a pace that builds confidence, not pressure
  • Experiencing real adventure without needing prior experience

This isn’t a checklist-style tour. It’s a guided day in the canyons shaped around where you’re at and what you want out of the experience.

From there, you can choose a half-day or full-day experience depending on how much time—and challenge—you’re looking for.

When & Where
HALF DAY tours begin at either 7:00am/7:30am, or 1:00pm/1:30pm 
  • AM tours return between 11:30am - 12:00pm
  • PM tours return between 5:00pm - 6:00pm
FULL DAY tours begin at 7:30am
  • Tours return between 3:30pm - 4:30pm

Winter Considerations
Winter trips begin around 8:00am MST and return between 2:00pm to 3:00pm dependent upon conditions.  These trips are highly dependent on conditions as well as what kind of adventure you are up for.  During the winter we are unable to provide half day trips.

Our guides provide all the necessary technical gear for your experience, but recommend you bring:
  • 2 liters water/person
  • Lunch and snacks
  • Multiple layers of warm synthetic clothing including gloves, hat, and water repellent pants and jacket.
  • Insulated boots
 Guided Tour Terms
Full payment is due at time of booking. Cancellations more than 14 days in advance will receive a 95% refund. Cancellations within 14 days of trip date are non-refundable. Weather conditions do not permit clients to cancel trips.  If your Zion Adventures® guide determines conditions make the event unsafe, we will reschedule or make every effort to provide a comparable experience; if not possible, all purchases will be refunded in full.
What To Bring
Our guides provide all the necessary technical gear for your experience, but recommend you bring:
  • Water (2-3 liters per person) 
  • Sun protection (sunscreen, protective layers, hat, etc.)
  • Closed-toe footwear (athletic shoes or hiking shoes)
  • Lunch and snacks 
  • Camera (hire a professional photographer to join your trip)
  • Clothing for varying seasonal weather
    • Summer: A synthetic t-shirt, shorts or lightweight pants 
    • Spring/Fall/Winter: Warm synthetic layers, waterproof jacket, and gloves

Me and my wife did the 1/2 day canyoneering trip. Our guide was amazing! Gayle made us feel confident with the gear and movements. For me, being afraid of heights, I was apprehensive. Had an amazing time! Kyle was our guide for the Canyon Adventure Day and couldn’t have asked for a better guide. My girlfriend and I did this and we had zero experience in rappelling or canyoneering. He walked us through the steps (which were pretty simple) and explained it thoroughly. I felt really comfortable telling him what I was and wasn’t comfortable doing and he was incredibly accommodating along the way. We were comfortable doing a larger rappel down but he asked us what we wanted to do and suited the day for what we wanted! Kyle had a really in depth knowledge about the area and the geography which was a bonus! We did the half day and got 4 rappels in and went into a really cool slot canyon. Felt safe the whole time while being able to push outside my comfort zone, would for sure go again!!

Whitney guided us on an absolutely fantastic half day canyoneering tour. She adjusted the trip to our skill level and really tailored the experience to the two of us. She did a great job listening to us and what we wanted out of our day. The views from lambs knoll were incredible and the whole experience was a lot of fun. Would highly recommend!

What should I wear or bring?

After booking, you’ll receive detailed preparation information. In general, guests should plan for comfortable athletic clothing, sturdy footwear suitable for uneven terrain, and layers appropriate for desert conditions.

Are kids allowed on this Slot Canyon Tour?

Families with children 12 and under are encouraged to book Family Canyoneering , which is designed specifically for younger participants.

How customizable is the experience?

Canyon selection, pacing, and challenge level are adjusted based on conditions, group ability, and the goals of the day. While routes are flexible, all decisions are made with risk management in mind.
