ANGELS LANDING - The Basics in 5 Minutes or Less
Picture
  1. Yes, it's all they say it is and more.
  2. You do need to secure a permit. More info here.
  3. The trail starts at the The Grotto.
  4. It's 1,488 feet of elevation gain in about 2.2 miles. Then, 3/4 mile on the ridge-line portion of trail to Angels Landing.
  5. This section of trail can be only a few feet wide with very long drop-offs.
  6. If you are really afraid of heights, the last 3/4 mile is not the trail for you. However, you can hike the first 2.2 miles and stop for pictures and catch your breath.
  7. The landing rewards hikers with panoramic views of Zion Canyon.
  8. And yes, it's worth the trip. For all the details, click here.
  9. Fun Fact: If you hike to Observation Point on the other side of the canyon, you'll look down on Angels Landing.

Zion's Original Outfitter, Guide Service & e-Bike Rental

In 1996, we opened the first Narrows outfitter and guide service in Zion. Just as we are the creators of Narrows outfitting, we continue to lead the way by providing you with the highest quality products and services. With over 27 years working and playing in this area - and serving almost a million people - we can guarantee you one amazing moment after another.

How can you get up the Zion Canyon Scenic Drive?
1. Rent bicycles or e-bikes and ride the 7 1/2 miles to the trailhead. The freedom is worth it.
2. During the winter months (except holidays), you can drive your car on the scenic drive.
3. Most of the year the shuttles are running and you will need to take the park shuttle up the scenic drive.

Flash Flood Potential
  • We've officially entered the desert monsoon season. With it brings the potential for flash flooding.  Typically, storms in the watershed area occur late afternoon. During August, hike earlier in the day and exit the river by early afternoon.
  • Flash floods are rare, but not impossible. Hikers should still be aware of hazardous conditions; including rain predicted in the water shed or river water changing color with added debris. Come see us for the most current info.

Water Flow Rate
  • 91 CFS; the flow is currently fluctuating a bit depending on how much it rains in the watershed.
  • Zion National Park closes the Narrows if the flow exceeds 150 CFS; typically this occurs during rain storms or spring snow melt. In order for the Narrows to remain open, the CFS must remain under 150 for 24 hours. Please stop by for the latest information on projected openings and closures of the Narrows.

Temple of Sinawava Trailhead Access
  • Ride a Bike - Join the other wise visitors and visit Zion's main canyon on a bicycle. It really is an amazing experience.
  • Drive yourself - Only possible when the Zion National Park free shuttle isn't operating. Parking spaces are limited due to construction occurring at the Temple of Sinawava. It's worth while to get an early start!
  • Park in Springdale, or at the Zion National Park Visitor Center. Then use the free shuttle.
