Perhaps the least explored area of Zion, the Southwest Desert area features the lowest elevation and most subtle terrain in the Park. While temperatures here can be blistering during the summer, these trails are great options October through April. Trails meander in and out of desert washes or “arroyos,” ephemeral streambeds which rage after thunderstorms, but are usually dry. Although these trails are fairly flat, crystal-clear views of Mount Kinesava, Shunesburg Mountain, Transview Mountain, South Mountain, and Eagle Crags create a panorama of mountain and canyon landscapes all around the Southwest Desert area.
