When we were kids, we watched in awe as we saw people rock climbing or rappelling, but it was so far out of reach. Now, as adults, we design events to empower everyone at every level. Nobody is pushed, but all are challenged. Everyone learns how to manage risk in a safe and friendly environment. Everyone feels excitement, nervousness, and ultimately the joy of success. Gather your family and friends to celebrate the kind of greatness that brings everyone closer.

In Europe, canyoneering or “canyoning” is an intense sport, well known as the latest "extreme game." Here, in the mecca of canyoneering, extremists have been descending Zion’s "Secret Canyons" for nearly 100 years. Just now, canyoneering is hitting the mainstream in the United States.
Canyoneering refers to travel through or occupation of a steep narrow area requiring the use of a variety of wilderness techniques. It is transforming. It reaches in and brings out the child in all of us as it combines all levels of exploration: hiking, splashing through streams, scrambling over boulders, problem solving with peers, and rappelling through waterfalls into cold pools.
Canyoneering is the fastest growing sport in Zion National Park, with hundreds of people making their way through the labyrinth of slots the Park offers. Some canyons are easy to descend and require no special skills at all; others require wilderness-level planning and training and offer immense physical and mental challenges. Whatever your state of readiness, there is a canyon in the desert awaiting you.
Zion Adventure Company is a professional canyoneering organization, invested in helping shape and grow the sport with safe, fun, and effective curricula brought to life by our comprehensive menu of trips and courses.
Consider canyoneering as an exciting part of your next visit to the Southwest.
Zion is the mecca of canyoneering, bringing an immense array of canyon types and difficulties all within reasonable logistical challenges. Zion's canyons have the remote feeling of far off place, but many of the finer trade routes are day events within an hour of a main road.
This accessibility has created a draw for those able to travel from Salt Lake City or Las Vegas, and even southern California just for the weekend. But canyonering is new to Zion. The natives who traveled here 5000 years ago left stories on petroglyphs about the ominous world of slot canyons, and even as recent as a hundred years ago, men with cowboy boots an blue jeans were descending canyons still daunting to modern day canyoneers.
Many ponder this question once they get to the decision point that canyoneering is for them. This is a great place to be.
