Basic Rock

Climb in the morning and still have time to hike Zion in the afternoon! Half-Day Basic Rock is our most popular climbing event for both beginners and families. We highly recommend this trip as an introduction to rock climbing for anyone who has not climbed outside before. For those seeking to build a solid foundation in fundamental techniques and knowledge, a Full-Day course will help you gain competency in basic technical skills and body movement. All courses are experiential; students learn belaying and climbing by practicing these skills under the careful eye of an instructor. At the end of the course, students walk away with a concrete skills and visions of future climbing pathways!

We begin each session with basic climbing skill sets to ensure a really fun and educational day. The climbing areas we choose are magnificently located near Zion, with incredible vistas. Your day will include:

• Climbing and hanging from ropes
• Rock faces from 40 to 100 feet tall
• Routes from super-easy to super-hard
• Awesome mountain views
• Shade and sun, as desired
• Half- and Full-Day options

We introduce you to the essential skills and classic techniques for a well-rounded introduction to the world of rock climbing:

• Knots, ropes, and harnesses
• Belaying and rappelling
• Top-rope climbing
• Effective climbing moves and techniques
• Low-impact climbing ethics

We provide all necessary technical gear for your experience, but recommend you bring:

• 2 quarts water/person
• Lunch and snacks
• Sunscreen
• Warm layer and wind jacket
• Light hiking pants or long shorts to protect your knees
• Light hiking shoes or sneakers
• Any type of camera

LOGISTIC DETAILS
• Meet for morning instruction at Zion Adventure Company at 36 Lion Blvd., across from the Quality Inn.
• 7 days/week, year-round
• Class begins at 7:30 am (Mountain Daylight Time)
• Drive time is between 35 - 75 minutes, depending on season and locale
• Trips return between 3:30 and 5:30 p.m.
