High Adventure Day

HADIntro

  • A steep hike, a full backpack, and a solid cardiovascular workout leads to unmatched vistas, long rappels, and an astounding day of desert adventure. We designed this trip especially for adventure enthusiasts who are looking to push physical limits in an incredibly dramatic learning environment. Athletic, inspired groups find this day a highly rewarding way to squeeze the most out of 24 hours. A High Adventure Day is also a unique, engaging way for sports, fire, police, military, and corporate organizations to test the strength of their communication, problem-solving, and teamwork abilities within an exciting, physical adventure.
  • - Age 16 or older recommended, or otherwise accompanied by a guardian
    - No experience necessary, but all party members must be comfortable with heights
    - All party members must be reasonably fit and able to hike a 4-mile, 2500-foot ascent route
  • Departing at 7 a.m., we head out for an extra-full day of canyon adventuring. After a big hike, we gear up for a long descent of a classic desert slot canyon. High Adventure Days can involve 8 - 12 rappels up to 200-feet, as well as rope ascents, guided rappels, tyrolean traverses, and pothole escapes. We descend expedition-style, moving efficiently and acting decisively to get the most out of our time in the canyon. Looking back at the day, some students have difficulty believing it all happened in only one day...
  • High Adventure Days incorporate our introductory canyoneering curriculum within a highly active, non-stop itinerary. You get a great deal of practice with the following skills:

    - Footwork and balance management
    - Floating disconnects
    - Swimming with drysuits and heavy packs

Can provide some of the necessary skills needed to descend the following canyons in Zion:

    - The "Subway"
    - Keyhole Canyon
    - Orderville Canyon

If you seek to gain qualifications as a self-guided canyoneer through this course or desire to attempt more difficult descents than those suggested above, check out Half-Day Basic, One-Day Basic, or Three-Day Basic.
