What Is Via Ferrata? Our Via Ferrata (aka Shorty Town™) offers the incredible opportunity to traverse sandstone cliffs high above a gorgeous slot canyon. Via Ferrata is a mountain route equipped with fixed protection like metal runged ladders, cables, and bridges, anchored right to the cliffs themselves. Originally used in Austria and Germany for mountain travel, Via Ferrata routes have become a unique recreational experience allowing access to high elevation terrain right here in the greater Zion area.
Why Choose Our Zion Via Ferrata ExperienceOur Zion Via Ferrata Experience offers a rare way to step beyond the crowds and into a quieter, more immersive side of the landscape. Hosted on private property just outside the park boundary, this experience delivers uncrowded access to stunning terrain that most visitors never see—without the need for multi-day backcountry travel or advanced technical skills.
It’s intentionally designed for a wide range of people, from the outdoor-curious to seasoned adventurers, and welcomes families, couples, groups, and solo participants alike. Our guides support guests across all confidence and experience levels, creating an environment that is both approachable and engaging. At the same time, via ferrata asks each participant to be present, accountable, and actively involved in their own movement and safety. The result is not just a climb, but an empowering experience—one that builds confidence, fosters connection, and delivers a truly unique Zion adventure. Pricing

"We did the via ferrata tour and we had so much fun!! Our two guides, Bill and Thomas, were very personable and prioritized our safety throughout the whole tour. I would recommend this to anyone remotely interested. They made it so simple that I believe anyone could do the via ferrata. They are also very knowledgeable in things adventure related around the area.
I can’t say enough about our day spent with Zion Adventures!"

A friend and I recently did the Via Ferrata shorty town with the 2 best guides Rick and Bill. And we're lucky enough to be the only 2 on that mornings tour.
The tour went for around 5 hours. Included a hike to the practice wall, a safety briefing that was super informative on how to be safe. Then, it was another short hike to the main event. Bill and Rick made us both feel super safe and comfortable the entire time, and they were supportive in talking me through the small abseiling section I was freaking out about. Bill was taking photos the entire time, which meant we had so many memories for that day. It was such a fun, exhilarating experience. After the climb, we hiked back to their cabin, where we had amazing views to relax before heading back to town.
We couldn't recommend this tour more!
Thanks for the awesome memories guys!

Why Via Ferrata Is Rare in the United StatesAlthough originally used in Austria and Germany for mountain travel, they were built in Italy during World War I to aid the movement of Italian alpine soldiers and their equipment through the Dolomites.
Via ferrata routes are common in Europe but remain uncommon in the United States due to the complexity of design, construction, and land access. There are only a small number of via ferrata experiences nationwide, and even fewer located near iconic landscapes like Zion National Park. This route was intentionally designed and built to offer a protected climbing experience that blends access, safety, and scenery—making it a truly unique way to explore the vertical terrain of southern Utah. Why Book With UsThis Zion via ferrata experience is guided by professionals with deep local knowledge and hands-on experience operating in steep, technical terrain. From instruction on the practice wall to movement on the main route, guides focus on clear communication, pacing, and situational awareness—so participants feel supported without being rushed.
The route is hosted on private land just outside Zion National Park, allowing for a more remote setting and a carefully managed experience. Group sizes are kept intentional, instruction is thorough, and the day is structured to balance challenge, learning, and time in the landscape. The result is a via ferrata that feels both accessible and meaningful—designed for people who want to move confidently through vertical terrain with expert guidance. |
Frequently Asked QuestionsDo I need prior climbing or via ferrata experience?
No prior climbing or via ferrata experience is required. This experience is designed for a wide range of participants—from those who are outdoor-curious to seasoned adventurers. Our guides provide thorough instruction and support so you can move confidently on the route.
How does safety work on the via ferrata?
Via ferrata is a guided experience where safety is shared between the guide and each participant. You will be clipped into a continuous steel cable system using specialized via ferrata equipment, and you are responsible for managing your own connection points as you move along the route.
Before entering the main wall, all participants complete a required practice wall where guides teach proper clipping technique, movement, and pacing, and ensure everyone is comfortable using the system. Throughout the experience, guides provide instruction, oversight, and coaching—but each participant plays an active role in their own safety. This shared responsibility is an important part of the experience and often leaves people feeling more confident, capable, and empowered by the end of the day. What if I feel nervous or unsure during the climb?
Feeling nervous is completely normal, especially when doing something new. Our guides are trained to work with participants across all confidence levels and will help you move at a pace that feels manageable. You are never rushed, and encouragement, coaching, and breaks are built into the experience.
Who is this via ferrata a good fit for?
This experience is well-suited for families with a sense of adventure, couples, groups, and individuals who want a unique way to explore Zion-area terrain without crowds. It’s ideal for people who want a backcountry feel, are comfortable with exposure, and are willing to actively participate in their own safety.
Can we hire a photographer?
Yes. You can add a professional photographer (Desert Paintbrush) to your via ferrata experience to capture the day in a way that goes beyond phone photos. This is a popular option for couples, families, groups, and retreats who want lasting memories—or high-quality content to share afterward. Photography add-ons are coordinated in advance and designed to complement the flow of the experience without disrupting it.
What time of year is best for doing the Zion via ferrata?
The via ferrata runs seasonally and is especially well-suited for spring, summer, and fall. Because the route sits at a higher elevation and catches more airflow, it’s a great option for getting out of the heat during the warmer months. Summer trips often feel significantly cooler than lower-elevation hikes, making this a comfortable and enjoyable way to explore Zion-area terrain when temperatures rise.
