A Day of Canyoneering for Those Drawn To Big Outdoor ExperiencesFor decades, Southern Utah's desert slot canyons have been a magnet for High Adventure enthusiasts. They are Challenging. Rewarding. Inspiring. Addicting. In addition to the fluted sandstone walls that characterize slot canyons everywhere, our high adventure destinations all contain water at certain times of the year, possibly flowing, and steep rappels; characteristics which make these awesome trips challenging desert expeditions. The athletic and inspired will find this highly ambitious day demanding, yet immensely rewarding. Although your professionally trained guide will work with you to choose the best canyon to suit your needs, the physical and technical nature of this expedition requires personal responsibility for safety and a high level of efficiency, competency and independence with rope handling and rappelling from each participant. Frequently Asked QuestionsHow strenuous is the High Adventure Day?
Very strenuous. This trip is designed for confident adventurers and includes steep terrain, strenuous hiking, and steep rappels. Guests should be able to carry a pack for a full day and be prepared for an 8–10 hour outing.
What age is recommended?
Zion Adventures recommends participants be age 16 or older.
Will we be in water?
Possibly, yes. High Adventure destinations may contain water at certain times of year—sometimes flowing—and you should be comfortable being wet and traveling through potentially cold water. We provide the appropriate cold water protection depending on the season.
Do I need prior canyoneering or rappelling experience?
Prior experience is strongly recommended but not required. This is not an introductory trip. The day may involve multiple rappels, complex canyon features, variable water conditions, and long hours in demanding environments. Participants are expected to take an active role in their own safety and move competently as part of a team. If you are newer to canyoneering or still building foundational skills, we recommend starting with a different adventure before booking this experience.
