Born in Massachusetts, raised on White Mountain hikes, and educated in Boulder, Colorado, my formative experiences have allowed me ample time outdoors. I feel so lucky to share my experiences with our clients who come to experience Zion Canyon.
My earliest memories are exploring the woods outside my house. My sister and I would spend hours checking out the world with our young, fresh eyes. My mom’s botanist friend, in particular, encouraged this wonderment of the world around me, always telling us the name of a tree or plant, quizzing us and creating games to keep us moving. It was an ideal childhood, filled with play, laughter, and sunlight.
A month-long NOLS course in 2003 introduced me to the wildlands of the western United States. When applying to college, I was intrigued with the University of Colorado at Boulder. Arriving in Boulder and seeing the great energy and beautiful mountains began four years of study, climbing, and exploring in Colorado.
My 2008 college graduation found me with a B.A. in Literature and Business and back in Massachusetts, working for an outdoor education company as a summer trip leader and winter hiring coordinator. While there, I fell in love with yoga and whitewater rafting. I had the privilege of studying for a yoga teaching certification from Frog Lotus Yoga in North Adams, MA.
I also had the opportunity to spend the summer of 2009 working for a ZOAR Adventure Resort as a raft and zip line guide. I valued seeing guests change as they overcame their fears in the trees or on the river. I learned the delicate balance of when to push a guest and when to step back and their experience evolve organically. As people overcame their fears, I could see their perspectives shift. Each day was exciting as I worked with people from varying backgrounds and experiences.
During the winter of 2009, I traveled to India for advanced certification in yoga, learning about Ayurvedic medicine and taking in the sights, smells, and sounds of India. Traveling to Thailand from India, I spent five weeks studying traditional Thai Massage, exploring, and rock climbing in Southern Thailand. Arriving back from my travels, I found Zion Adventure Company and moved to Southern Utah with my boyfriend, James, who works as a wilderness therapy field instructor in the local area.
My goal is to guide in environments people rarely get to see. Most of all, I want to bask in the good energy generated while working with passionate people in incredible places. Each day is an adventure, and I am so grateful to share my days with such wonderful clients.August 3, 2010

Dear Zion Adventure Company,
Thanks for an absolutely fantastic day rappelling in Water Canyon. We knew this canyon only through topo maps, and were thrilled when we learned this would be our goal. We had no idea this would be a day so full of adventure, of acquiring so many totally new skills and knowledge of canyoneering, and of becoming intimate with a place that must be described as sacred in its beauty. We have backpacked in canyon country for years, but this will remain as one of the most singularly exciting times we have had. Thanks to Rob and Kate for being so thorough and patient with two essentially nonathletic souls. The whole experience went beyond the merely thrilling and made us even more aware of what it is to be totally alive. We will unhesitatingly share our enthusiasm for your company, as it is clear that your mission embodies so much.
Sincerely,
Craig and Sue Westendorf,
Phoenix, Arizona
