New Landscaping at ZAC!

For those of you who have visited the ZAC store recently, you may have noticed a few new changes to our building. In addition to our new Fuzo Overland vehicle parked out front, you’ll also see our newly landscaped area as well!                   On April 3rd, a handful of our staff members pulled together and put on a Planting Day to improve the area in front of our building. We planted desert, water-wise plants such as Yucca and Penstemon to create a xeri-scaped rock garden from our parking lot out to SR-9. Aside from planting, we have since been working on laying down weed-barrier, a drip irrigation system, and decorative gravel. Stop by and check it out! BEFORE AFTER!

Celebrating Springdale’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade

It’s a tradition. St. Patrick’s Day is to be celebrated – especially in Zion Canyon. Every year, it seems that the most celebrated springtime event in Springdale is the celebration of all things green. Not only do we start to see green grass and flowering buds – in Springdale, we begin to see leprechauns, belly dancers, Jell-o and more! Springdale’s St. Patrick’s Day parade, green Jell-o sculpture contest, and other festivities attract hundreds of bystanders every year. This year was no different. In the past, Zion Adventure’s staff has had the opportunity to be involved with these activities, but this year we went all out! Many members of our team (myself included!) jumped aboard the Overland Unimog in crazy outfits and hair-dos, and set out for a great time in the parade. Our signature parade production involved the entire team getting “ran over” by the Unimog. Check out the video! The ZAC float starts at about TIME: 3:10. You can also find more info, videos, and photos on Springdale’s facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/Springdale.Utah In addition to having a great time, we received the “Best Float” award in the parade, and our own team member Lanell Dike and her friends received “Best in Show” in the Jell-o sculpture contest … Continue reading

Around the World in a Day

It is amazing how many accents we hear in the shop from all parts of the world. I find so much enjoyment in figuring out the German from the Dutch, the New Zealand from the Australian, and so on. Every now and again I put my foot in my mouth – “So you’re from Holland?”… “No we are Swiss, we speak French there.” Oops! Some voices are a special treat – Scottish and Irish are my particular favorites. One of the beauties of hearing so many different dialects and pronunciations is you reach a point where you can pinpoint so many countries of origin. For instance, with my two favorites, I know Irish folks sound very much like they are asking a question, typically ending with a higher note and more inflection (I wish I could better articulate how that sounds). Scots sound to me like they are talking with friends, as if they are telling infinite stories. They have throaty, round voices. Every time a new person walks in the door, odds are they talk differently from myself. Their accents are immediate reminders they are not from here, just visiting, taking in the spectacular cliff faces, canyons, and riverside … Continue reading
