The Town of Springdale, Zion Canyon Visitor’s Bureau and Zion Canyon Arts and Humanities Council (Z-Arts!) have combined forces for the first time to host a winter festival in Zion Canyon. Local businesses and local musicians have been enjoined to fill the weekends of the holiday season with fun and – you guessed it – joy.
Kicking off the festival is the 21st Annual Z-Arts! Arts and Crafts Fair on Thanksgiving weekend, Friday and Saturday November 26 and 27 at the Canyon Community Center, 126 Lion Boulevard, in Springdale. This popular fair features handmade arts and crafts by regional artists. An added feature this year is the opportunity to have your pet’s photo taken by a professional photographer.
The Downtown Christmas Tree will be illuminated at 5:00 pm on November 27th. The tree is located at Under the Eaves Bed and Breakfast, 980 Zion Park Boulevard. Our first “Music at the Mart” performance, featuring the Kate Godfrey Ensemble, begins at 4:00 and after an intermission for the tree lighting, will continue until 6:30. Throughout the festival, free outdoor performances are scheduled on Saturdays from 3pm-5pm at the Plaza at Sol Foods Supermarket at 995 Zion Park Boulevard. Springdale businesses are offering special meals, deals, discounts and packages to make a holiday stay or visit in Springdale a wonderful experience.
December 4th beginning at 5:00pm Springdale will host its first annual Holiday Light Parade along downtown’s ‘Candy Cane Main’. Brightly lit fire trucks, personal vehicles, bicyclists, electric pedestrians and other wonders will spread cheer to the young and the young at heart. There might even be an electric horseman or two! The parade will culminate at the Canyon Community Center, 126 Lion Boulevard where hot drinks and cold ice cream will be served at an Ice Cream Social. Elise West will offer lovely vocals while accompanying herself on the Center’s grand piano. In addition to the parade entries, businesses and residences will be competing for ‘Best Holiday Lighting’ prizes to be announced at the social.
No winter festival would be complete without Santa, and the real Santa will be at Bumbleberry Theater, 897 Zion Park Boulevard, on December 18 from 2:00 until 5:00.
On Christmas Eve, the Canyon Community Center will host a potluck dinner. A dollar gift or white elephant gift to exchange is the ticket price for a friendly town get-together for those who are separated from family or who just want a no-fuss Christmas Eve. Our festival finale will feature a 20-minute fireworks display at Springdale Town Park on Lion Boulevard. Fireworks will begin at full dark, approximately 6:00pm as an appetizer to arrive at private countdown parties.
