New St. George Runway is Closest Airport to Zion National Park

The new St. George Municipal Airport (SGU) opened on January 13th, ushering in a new era for Zion-area air travel. Though SGU is the closet airport to Zion National Park, the vast majority of visitors will likely still use McCarran International airport in Las Vegas as their arrival gate. As the SGU facility branches out, however, I imagine more and more folks will be landing in St. George in coming years.

Starting March 6th, SkyWest will offer daily flights to and from Los Angeles (LAX) to St. George (SGU). At only 110 minutes, I can see how lots of travelers would choose to fly, rather than fight L.A. traffic, especially on a weekend. Flying to and from Salt Lake is even shorter (59 minutes) and is available 6 – 7 times a day. Check out the details.

Yeah, except… LAX? Man, I think I’d rather drive 5 hours than deal with LAX!
